Norma Jean Miller-Sellers was born October 11, 1932, on a farm north of Pomona, Kansas. She was the daughter of Edward Wendell and Maria Elizabeth (Standfast) Stoffer. She grew up and attended Oakland Rural School. After 8th grade, she moved to Ottawa to live with her grandmother Stephanie (Fannie) Standfast to go to Ottawa High School and graduated in 1950. Norma worked for John Weidmann Tire and Battery Service and Union LP Gas Co., and from July 1951 to January 1957, Peoples National Bank. She then went to Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., and in May 1960 returned to Peoples National Bank, retiring October 10, 1997, after 44 years. Norma later worked for Mr. C’s Affordable Maytag from July 2003 to October 2006. During this time, she was the coordinator and host for the Peoples 50 Plus Travel Club. After 31 years of traveling the world, she retired December 2019.
On June 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert Kent Miller of Wellsville, Kansas, at the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Together they celebrated 37 years of married life. He passed away June 16, 1989. On July 9, 1994, she married Donald. L Sellers at the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. He passed away July 14, 2003.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Norma was a room mother at Garfield School and active in the PTA while her children were in school. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club, OK Extension Homemakers Unit, and Inter se Club. She was a charter member of the 4-Seasons Garden Club, which formed at her home in 1966. She was a member of the Care and Share Group, a member of the Pride Committee, and an ambassador for the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Jean Miller of Lawrence, Kansas, and Kellee Jo Allen of Ottawa, Kansas; stepsons, J.D. (Karen) Sellers, Jeff (Debbie) Sellers, Jamie (Carissa) Sellers, Jere (Veronica) Sellers, Jason (Sherry) Sellers; three granddaughters, Mikala Bryn Allen, Paige Elizabeth Allen, and Kristina Machnov; sister-in-law Sally Barnett, Wellsville, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her companion, Merl Shaffer; her sisters-in-law Bette J. Leib and Gladys Usher; and brother-in-law Kenneth D. Sellers.
Family will greet friends 6-8:00pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, Ottawa.
Interment 12:00pm, Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
