Nona Jane (Stockman) Knox died on January 23rd, 2018 after a brave bout with glioblastoma. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church 5 S. 8th St. Louisburg, Kansas. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Andy Keltner will be officiating. Nona was born on May 4th, 1943 on her family’s farm outside of Emma, Missouri to Albert and Nora Stockman. Nona graduated from Sweet Springs High School in 1961 and began working at AT&T in Kansas City, Missouri. She married James Knox in 1963 and the couple moved to Pittsburg, Kansas where Nona worked in the Dean of Education’s office at Pitt State University. Nona and Jim then moved to McCune, Farlinville and Mound City before settling in Louisburg, Kansas for the majority of their lives. While in Louisburg, Nona served as City Clerk for three years before beginning her 34 year-long career at Kansas City Power and Light. Nona was an avid animal lover, rescuing countless cats, dogs and even a few raccoons during her lifetime. She was a medical activist, donating both her time and herself for new research in breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. She was a generous humanitarian, volunteering for United Way organizations and other civic duties. She was a constant friend to nearly everyone she knew, forming lasting relationships with many of her KCPL customers and colleagues. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and an unforgettable Nana. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Nona was preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Stockman, her infant son, James Keith Knox and her husband of 54 years, James Thomas Knox. She is survived by her daughters, Alicia Vance (Robby), Andrea Becker (Brian), Alison Moore (Tommy) and Adriane Knox, 10 grandchildren, one great grandson, her sisters, Bonnie Evans, Marla Copeland, Wanda Martin, Sandra Hauer, Juanita Cummings and Tamie Heagy-Stockman, her brother, Rick Stockman and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
