Nina B. Hughes

Nina Belle Hughes, 93, of Pomona, KS, died Monday, March 18, 2002 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Waverly, KS. She was born September 23, 1908 in Rural Pomona, Kansas. Nina was a life long Franklin County resident. She was raised in the Appanoose area until moving to Pomona in 1955 and in September of 2000 she moved to Sunset Nursing Home, Waverly. She graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1927. Mrs. Hughes was employed for sixteen years as an assistant cashier for the Citizen`s State Bank, retiring in 1973. From 1945 to 1957 she employed by Farmer`s Union Co-op at Pomona as a clerk and bookkeeper. She was united with the Baptist Church as a child. In later years, she attended Pomona United Methodist Church. On January 17th, 1931, Nina was united in marriage with R.A. Inky Hughes at Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1983. Her family includes: Father, Clyde Hetrick (deceased), Mother, Lura Hetrick (deceased), Infant Son, Richard Hughes (deceased), Sister, Joyce Beard-More (deceased), Brother, Max Hetrick of Pomona, KS, Sister, Edith Ratzlaff of Waverly, KS, Sister, Geneva Simons of Richland, WA, Godchild, Deborah Jones of Rose Hill, KS, Several Nieces & Nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00pm, Thursday, March 21, 2002 with burial at Woodlawn Cemetary, Pomona, Ks. OFFICIATING CLERGY:Rev. Mindy Johnson IN STATE: Mrs. Hughes will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00pm on Wednesday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Ks.
