Nellie Marie Lofgreen was born on Friday, May 27, 1921, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Bert W. and Mary Myrtle (Adamson) Hopkins. Nellie lived in Ottawa until the age of four, moving with her family to Detroit, Michigan for six years. She returned to Ottawa in 1931 and, after her marriage to Robert Johnston, they lived in New York, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. She returned to Ottawa in 1969, where she made her home, until her death Monday, October 10, 2005, at the age of eighty-four years. Nellie graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939 and attended Kansas University. She was a homemaker. Nellie was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star in Wisconsin, and First United Methodist Church, in Ottawa. Nellie liked to cook, and her family really enjoyed the meals she prepared. She also enjoyed her yard and caring for her flowers. And Nellie loved to travel. She visited every state in the continental United States, as well as Mexico and Canada! Nellie was such a kind, caring, gracious lady and so enjoyable to visit with. She always greeted people with a smile. On June 22, 1941, Nellie was united in marriage with Robert S. Johnston at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1969. On June 16, 1981, Nellie was united in marriage with DeWayne Lofgreen. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers. Mrs. Lofgreen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jacqueline Johnston of Rockford, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tom Mock of Ottawa; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Graveside funeral services will be held at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2005. IN STATE: Mrs. Lofgreen will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 8:45 to 9:45 Friday morning, prior to processing to the cemetery.
