Nelda M. “Margie” Dean, 91, of Wellsville, formerly of Peoria, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Ottawa Bible Church, 1623 S. Poplar, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to service. Mrs. Dean will lie in state from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 8, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Peoria Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas. Margie was born Tuesday, August 10, 1926 in Hoxie, Kansas, the daughter of Frances (Matthews) and Leland Babcock. She grew up on a farm near Hutchinson, Kansas. In the early 1940s, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas. Soon after her marriage they moved to Ottawa. In 1954, they moved to Peoria, where she lived 54 years. Margie later returned to Ottawa, until moving to Wellsville, where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Wichita High School East with the class of 1944. She attended a Nazarene College in Oklahoma. Margie was united in marriage to Adell Warren “Bud” Dean September 30, 1949 in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death January 18, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son, Victor Warren Dean; parents; and sister, Roseva W. Lawrence. Survivors include her three children, Virgil Dean and wife Jan of Lawrence, Mike Dean and wife Debbie of Ottawa, and Debbie Keller and husband Gary of Spring Hill; brother, Norval Babcock of Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Jennifer Huff, Jared Dean, Matthew Keller and Mariah Keller; and eight great grandchildren. Margie was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She was also employed at King Radio and H. D. Lee. She attended the Peoria Evangelical United Brethren Church and Ottawa Bible Church. Margie was very active in the Peoria community and her children’s activities when they were growing up. She was family and church oriented, enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and having bible studies in her home.
