Neil B. Bullock

December 22, 1915 — March 26, 2016

Neil B. Bullock, 100, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 31, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Ottawa. He will lie in state from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Neil was born Wednesday, December 22, 1915, the son of Fount and Mayme (Hunt) Bullock. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident except from 1992 to 1998, when he lived in Estes Park, Colorado. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1934, and attended Ottawa University for 2 years. Neil served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater in London as a medic. He was united in marriage with Mary Baxter February 26, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his father, Fount Bullock on August 8, 1961; mother, Mayme Bullock on December 25, 1965; and two sisters, Aletha Winn and Ilo Price. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Jane Bennett, of Ottawa; three nieces, Jean Geist of Ottawa, Mary Ruth Horn of Florida, and Barb Hugie of California; three nephews, Charles Gordon of Florida, Hal Gordon of Florida, Bill Smithers of Wyoming; and many great nieces and nephews. He owned and operated Farmers Insurance Group in Ottawa from 1956 to 1986, where he was a district manager and an agent. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, serving in almost every capacity. He also served as treasurer for the Ottawa Boys’ Club for many years and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Neil had great compassion for people and animals, especially cats. He also enjoyed woodworking and making furniture. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
