Nathan Foster Coons

Nathan Foster Coons was born on Wednesday, May 10, 1950, in Olathe, Kansas. He was the son of Robert Lee and Francis Bernice (Meyers) Coons. A lifelong resident, Nathan made his home in Wellsville, Kansas, until his death on Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the age of fifty-six years. Nathan attended Wellsville High School with the class of 1969. He was a warehouse attendant for A T & T in Lenexa, Kansas for twenty years, retiring in 1990. Nathan served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Roark. From 1978 to December of 1998, he served in the Army Reserves attaining the rank of SFC and receiving the Army Commendation Medal in 1998. He was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ in Ottawa. Nathan was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing. On May 8, 1970, Nathan was united in marriage with Nancy Mae Broers in Ottawa. She survives of their home. Nathan is also survived by two sons, Marc Coons and his wife, Brandy; Shane Coons and his wife, Jerri, all of Wellsville, Kansas; five brothers, Robert Coons, Jr. and his wife, Pam; Clyde Coons and his wife, Debbie; Myron Coons and his wife, Arlene; Kevin Coons and his wife, Terri; Curtis Coons and his wife, Cheryl; two sisters, Claudia Bivins and her husband, Terry; Linda Fritshall and her husband, Randy; two grandsons, Camdyn Robert Coons and Avry Wade Coons; and two granddaughters, Cara Louise Coons and Aubree Mae Coons. He was preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Inurnment services will be held at Wellsville Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006. IN STATE: Family and friends will meet for visitation from 1 to 2:00 Thursday afternoon at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, prior to processing to the cemetery. CEMETERY: Wellsville Cemetery, with Military Honors by Wellsville American Legion Post #194. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Nathan Coons` Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
