Naomi Mildred Harms

September 6, 1940 — December 7, 2002

Naomi Mildred Harms was born September 6, 1940, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas, resident, she made her home in the Pomona area from 1963 until her death Saturday, December 7, 2002, at the age of sixty-two years. Naomi graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1958. She then attended Halstead Nursing School and, in 1961, passed the Kansas State Nursing exam receiving her Registered Nursing Certificate. She was a registered nurse for forty-one years. She began her nursing career in the early 1960's at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, where she was employed fifteen years. In the late 1970's to the mid 1980's, she was employed at Brookside Manor in Overbrook. She was Director of Nursing at Crestview Nursing Home in Ottawa in the mid 1980's to mid 1990's, until it closed. She was presently working as night R.N. at Richmond Care Center, where she has been employed the past five years. On October 29, 1961, Naomi was united in marriage with Byron Harms at Ottawa. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her son, Richard Harms and his wife, Michelle, of Pomona; brother, Ernest John Thompson and his wife, Peggy, of Ottawa; and, two grandsons, Joseph Harms and Michael Ray Harms of Pomona. She is preceded in death by her parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 12, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Bob Miller. IN STATE: Mrs. Harms will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Central Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to American Heart Association or Greenwood Baptist Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
