Naomi Medearis, 96, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 324 E. Shawnee Street, Gardner, Kansas. Graveside inurnment services will follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City, Missouri. Naomi was born Friday, October 11, 1918, in Schell City, Missouri, the daughter of Leslie E. and Gladys R. (Strader) Bowman. She has lived in Ottawa since the mid 2000’s moving from Gardner where she lived for many years. Naomi was united in marriage with Glenn E. Medearis May 12, 1935, in Milo, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1989. She later married Val Garvey April 25, 1991, in Gardner, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Bonnie C. Pankalla. Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Carol Sands and husband Ron of Ottawa; sister, Frances Lewis of Nevada, Missouri; four grandchildren, Bill Ferguson and wife Ruth of La Monte, Missouri, Bob Ferguson and wife Melissa of Windsor, Missouri, Lesa Weatherred and husband Mike of Gardner, and Nicole Hollingshead and husband Kurt of Edgerton; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Glenn and Naomi owned and operated Mid Kansas Truck Line in Gardner, where she served as secretary from the mid 1950’s to early 1960’s. She also was a secretary for Watson Wilson Truck Line in Kansas City, Missouri, in the mid 1960’s, and an OS & D clerk for Time D. C. in Kansas City, Missouri, in the late 1960’s. She was a member of the Gardner First Baptist Church, Business and Professional Women of Kansas City, Missouri, and Order of the Eastern Star. Naomi loved spending time with her family, friends and church associates. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling, making many wonderful memories. She will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends forever.
