Nancy Pinet, age 78, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Village West in Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on Tuesday, March 28, 1933, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Donald G. and M. Irene (Larson) Hassebroek. Nancy moved with her family from Topeka to Riley, Kansas in 1937. She moved to Ottawa in 1958. She graduated from Riley Grade and High School and from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas in 1955 with a B.S. Degree in Music Education. She later studied bookkeeping. Nancy taught school music after college until 1958 in Edgerton, Kansas, and later worked for several different companies and organizations as bookkeeper, until retiring in March of 1998. On June 15, 1956, Nancy was united in marriage with Robert L. Pinet. They were divorced in 1979. Nancy was active in the community in a volunteer capacity for many years as a founder of, and secretary for, the Ottawa Little Symphony; was an Administrator of the Ottawa Community Arts Council from 1982 until 1984; was actively involved in Grace Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Kansas for many years; and as a volunteer for Ransom Memorial Hospital. Nancy loved spending time with her family and going for Sunday drives. She enjoyed music and played the piano with a passion. She was an avid gardener, reader and animal lover. Nancy was a lover of Philosophy and had a quick wit and good sense of humor. She will be missed. She is survived by her: Son-Robert Douglas Pinet and his wife, Kelly, Pomona, Kansas Daughter-Kimberly Sue Smith and her husband, Bruce, Ottawa, Kansas Grandchild-Blair Smith of Overland Park, Kansas Gt.Grandchild-Lily Ayr Harris of Overland Park, Kansas She was preceded in death by her: Parents-Donald G. and M. Irene Hassebroek Brother-Donald G. Hasselbroek, Jr. on September 2, 1952. SERVICES: Cremation is planned and private services will be held at a later date.
