Nancy was born May 19, 1940, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Norman and Millie (Bohringer) Cowles. Nancy graduated from Omaha North High School, Omaha, Nebraska with the class of 1958. She continued her education at Ottawa University where she met her husband Don Johnson. Don says that Nancy is the best thing he received from college. Nancy and Don married November 13, 1960, in Omaha and moved one year later to the family farm in rural Ottawa. Nancy and Don would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this fall. Don faithfully and lovingly met the needs of Nancy during the last 10 years of her life. Although a city girl Nancy quickly adapted to farm life and became an invaluable asset to Don on the farm. She ran the tractors, raised chickens, and hauled grain to town every fall. Nancy even hauled grain 1 week after giving birth to their youngest daughter. Nancy loved taking care of her home and family, tending to her flower beds, gardening, and canning numerous fruits and vegetables. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she always looked forward to their time together. Nancy also enjoyed sewing and reading. Nancy was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church and the Gideon Auxiliary. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church where she faithfully attended for many years. Many afternoons you could find her taking a break to read her Bible. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and first granddaughter, Courtney Ray Anderson. Survivors include her husband Don of the home; three children, Tim (Jilana) Johnson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Susan Frank of Palatka, Florida, and Cathleen (Jeremy) Anderson of Overland Park; a brother, Rodney (Shine) Cowles of Omaha, Nebraska; and seven grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Jonathan Frank, Derek Frank, Sydney Anderson, Victoria Anderson, Kelsey Anderson, and Kaitlyn Anderson.
