Myrtle V. Haas, 88, Ottawa, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Christian Care Cottage, Ottawa. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. She was born Thursday, Oct. 21, 1920, at Mirabile, Mo., to Isaac and Bunie (Whitsitt) Fairbanks. She moved to Ottawa in 1963 from Lawrence. She attended Lawrence High School. She was a homemaker. She married Jack C. Haas Jan. 7, 1939, at Lawrence. He preceded her in death May 18, 2002. Survivors include a son, Bob Haas, and his wife, Connie, Ottawa; a daughter, Shirley Jones, Ottawa; a sister, Anna May Bolton, and her husband, Roy, Lawrence; grandchildren, Vicki Draucker and Richard Cheek; and great-grandchildren, Carly Brown, Amanda Cheek, Jacob Cheek and Chelsea Draucker. She also was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Fairbanks, Herman Fairbanks and Roger Fairbanks; and sisters, Ruby McCrary and Roberta Sparks. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Friends may pay their respects after 9 a.m. Friday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be sent to Christian Care Cottage in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
