Myrtle Lee Reed, 92, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the First Christian Church of Louisburg, 602 N 1st Street, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be held at the Louisburg Cemetery, following the service.
She was born on March 19, 1932, at Paola, Kansas; and was the daughter of Ervin and Mabel (Frank) Koelsch.
Myrtle Lee was raised on a farm in the Highland community, Paola, Kansas; and attended the Highland Rural Grade School. She graduated from Paola High School with the class of 1950; later attending Ursuline College.
Myrtle Lee and Edward J. Reed were married on October 11, 1953, at the Paola First Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Louisburg, Kansas, and lived in the area for more than 60 years. A son, Mark Edward, was born and completed their home.
In 1951, Mrs. Reed began her career as a clerk of the Paola Board of Education. With the unification of school districts in 1966, she began serving as clerk of the USD 416 Board of Education; and continued in this position for 32 years, retiring in 1998.
Myrtle Lee loved flowers, and enjoyed caring for them. She especially loved her roses. Music, decorating, cooking, volunteering, and spending time with her family and friends brought her much joy.
She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Louisburg, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Myrtle Lee was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as the Bauer Scholarship chairman for over 20 years. She also served on the Miami County Medical Center Auxiliary Board, Miami County Historical Society Board, and the Louisburg Fox Hall Board.
Myrtle Lee is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 60 years, Edward Reed.
Survivors include one son, Mark Edward Reed, of Louisburg, Kansas, brother-in-law George (Betty) Reed, of Louisburg, Kansas, four grandchildren, Megan and Daniel Reed, and Tyler and Kristen Reed, as well as several nieces and nephews.
