Myrtle Irene Bones, 88, of Gardner, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Good Samaritan Skilled Nursing Facility, Olathe. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2020, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Mrs. Bones will lie in state from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Myrtle was born December 28, 1931, at Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Marion Albert and Rozella Hope (McCann) Schmoe. She lived in various locations including Wichita, from 1956 to 1969; Lawrence, from 1969 to 1971; Ottawa, 1971 to 2001; and Gardner, Kansas. She graduated from Rantoul High School with the class of 1949. Myrtle was united in marriage to Lester LeRoy Bones August 20, 1955, at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1998. She was employed as a seamstress with H.D. Lee for 18 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Ottawa Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Union Chapter No. 15 Order of the Eastern Star of Ottawa. Myrtle loved the time she spent with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and was a skilled, avid quilter. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Keith Bones; and five siblings, Homer Schmoe, Donnie Nichols, Dorothy Gilpin, Floyd Schmoe, and Mollie Lee. Survivors include three children, Kenneth (Gayle) Bones of Gardner, Jeanette Matney also of Gardner, and Mary (Fred) Guyll of Independence, Missouri; nine siblings, Gladys Butter, Hazel Guyett, George Schmoe, Jean Jones, all of Ottawa, Janette Millbern of Richmond, Virgie Sink of Ottawa, Merlin Schmoe of Baldwin, Dale Schmoe of Ottawa, and Audra Detwiler of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Cindy Bones of Spring Hill; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
