Mollie Jo Parkin, 73, died February 18, 2010, at her home. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2010 at Dengel and Sons Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas. She was born July 15, 1936, at a farmhouse near Pomona, Kansas, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She was the daughter of Clark Everett and Mary Marie (Eubank) Shepheard. She attended Greenwood and Pomona Schools. She was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church. Most recently, she attended the Christian Church of Centropolis. She served as a Sunday school teacher, a Baptist Youth Fellowship leader, and 4-H clothing leader. She worked in and around the Pomona community. She served as a West Franklin School District bus driver for 30 years, retiring in May 2009. She also worked at Star Industries, Our Own Hardware, and as a rural mail carrier. In 1953, she married Harry Thomas Parkin and they raised three sons. They later divorced. Survivors include sons Tom Parkin, and his wife Michele, Pomona; Steven Andrew Parkin, Arlington, Virginia; J.C. Parkin and his wife Nancy, Pomona; sister Bill Boender, Newark, California; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jack Shepheard, Frank Shepheard, William McGregor, and Merle McGregor; and sisters Florence Friend, and Elnora Day. The family will take visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Friends may also pay their respects after 9 a.m. Monday until the service hour. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. Memorials contributions may be sent to Midland Hospice in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
