Miriam Bertha Johnson

Miriam Bertha Johnson was born on Thursday, August 5th, 1920, in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the daughter of Eugene E. and Emily Mae (Coffelt) Potter. Miriam grew up and lived in Osawatomie, until moving to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1941. She followed her husband's military service, returning to Osawatomie in 1946. They moved to Paola in 1953 and Princeton in 1975. In 1985, she and her husband moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home, until her death Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at the age of eighty-five years. Miriam graduated from Osawatomie High School with the class of 1938. She was a homemaker. Miriam was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie. A kind and caring lady, Miriam loved animals. She was especially fond of cats, dogs, and horses. She enjoyed all her homemaking skills and caring for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren. On January 17, 1941, Miriam was united in marriage with Edgar Johnson in Osawatomie, Kansas. They celebrated sixty-four years of marriage. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her daughter, Loretta Edwards of Garnett, Kansas; son, Rick Johnson and his wife, Treniece, of Greeley, Kansas; five grandchildren, Scott Johnson, David Johnson, Shannon Johnson, Jessica Lewis-Edwards, and James Lewis and his companion, Sonya Schell, and their son, Adam Lewis, who is one of Miriam's three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Harold Edwards. SERVICES: Graveside inurnment services will be held at Osawatomie Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2005. IN STATE: Mrs. Johnson will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2005. CEMETERY: Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, Kansas. MEMORIALS: Family suggests memorial contributions to Ransom Memorial Hospital c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
