Minnie Elva Allen was born Wednesday, October 6, 1915, in Farlinville, Kansas, the daughter of Wyatt W. and Sarah F. (Ross) Johnson. She grew up in the Lane, Kansas area then moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home until her death Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the age of eighty-nine years. Minnie graduated from Lane High School with the class of 1934. She was a lifelong homemaker. Minnie was a member of Lane United Methodist Church. She also attended First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Minnie's life centered around her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed homemaking, especially, cooking. Her husband could bring someone home to eat anytime, because he knew she would always have a wonderful meal prepared. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, and going with Marshall to horseshoe tournaments. She helped with Cub Scouts; served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader; and was active in PTA, doing the cooking for their events. She also liked to be outdoors, working in her yard and gardening. On July 22, 1937, Minnie was united in marriage with Marshall W. Allen in Lane, Kansas. They celebrated sixty-one years of marriage. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers, Richard Johnson, L. B. Johnson, Everett L. Johnson, Hugh Ross, David Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and Walter Johnson. Mrs. Allen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Mary Allen of Vassar, Kansas, son, Robert W. Allen of Malvern, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia Jo and Mike Hammond of Winfield, Kansas; three grandsons, Todd Allen, Jeff Allen, and Jason Allen; granddaughter, Somer Lee Patterson; three great-granddaughters, Olivia Allen, Sophia Allen, and Reagan Allen; and three great-grandsons, Scout Allen, Parker Allen, and Wyatt Allen. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Jim Stigall. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Allen at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
