Mary "Mimi" Constance Nettels Gillin, 89, a proud native Kansan, born in the southeast coal mining community of Pittsburg, KS, on April 8, 1925, died New Year"s Day, 2015. Mimi"s dear friendships were far reaching and long lasting. Those relationships defined a large part of who she was. Her childhood buddies were maintained until the very end. There is something special about that "Pittsburg Gang". She graduated from Pittsburg High School and from Kansas University in 1947, receiving her bachelor"s degree in journalism. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and a lifetime member of the Kansas University Alumni Association. She was united in marriage to Hugh Clair Gillin, Jr. on June 17, 1947 at Pittsburg, KS which later ended in divorce. Mimi belonged to the Country Club Christian Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Edward and Mathilde Anne (Wulke) Nettels, one brother, John Curtis Nettels and one sister, Mathilde Anne Charles. Survivors include three sons, Mark (Vickie) Gillin,Burnett, TX, Tim (Lori)Gillin, Prairie Village, KS; and John (Jed) Gillin, Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Marcia Cook, Louisburg, KS; one brother, George Edward Nettels, Jr., Pittsburg, KS; four grandchildren, Mathilde Cook Strubbe, Benjamin Gillin, Sarah Owens and Trent Coffin; five great grandchildren Gillin, Mack and Mathilde Newell, Charlotte Strubbe and Wiley Rose Owens; sister-in-law, Jane Nettels and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests contributions to the Louisburg First Christian Church Building Fund.
