Mildred Virginia McConnell was born September 16, 1913, at Kansas City, Kansas. She was the daughter of Bert and Tina (Niswonger) Laughlin. In 1937, Mildred moved to Huntington Park, California and also lived in San Diego, California. She moved to Ottawa, Kansas, in 1991 and Vassar, Kansas, in 2000, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, August 21, 2002. She graduated from high school in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended business college. Mildred was a homemaker and also did office work, retiring in 1960. Mildred was a member of the Brethren Church in LaVerne, California. Mrs. McConnell enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her family. She also enjoyed traveling and visiting with her friends. On December 4, 1937, Mildred was united in marriage with Wayne C. McConnell at Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives of their home. Also, surviving are her son, James Robert 'Jim' McConnell of Vassar; granddaughter, Vikki Bellinger; two grandsons, James Robert McConnell, Jr., Gary McConnell; four step grandchildren; and, eleven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents and brother, Robert Laughlin. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2002. IN STATE: Mrs. McConnell will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Burial will be held at El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego, California, at a later date.
