Mildred A. “Midge”, “Millie”, Pelton, age 84, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Christian Care Cottage in Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on Tuesday, October 18, 1927, in Orrington, Maine, the daughter of Harry and Inez (Parker) Bowden, the last in her family of ten children. Midge grew up in Orrington, Maine and also lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Eliot, Maine; Peaks Island, Maine; Fort Myers, Florida; and North Fort Myers, Florida. In 2007 she moved to Ottawa in Franklin County, Kansas, until her death. Midge graduated from Orrington Public School and Husson University, Bangor, Maine earning a diploma in Stenography. Midge was currently attending First Baptist Church, Ottawa, Kansas. She was a former member of the Methodist Church in Maine and the Presbyterian Church in Florida. A past member of PTA, Troop Leader of Brownies and Girl Scouts, Violet Club, Ladies Golf and the Opera Group to Miami and Sarasota, Florida. On February 3, 1950 Midge was united in marriage with Sherman L. Pelton in Bangor, Maine. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2007. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She is survived by her: Son – Barry Pelton and his wife Hope of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter – Karen Johnson and her husband David of North Fort Myers, Florida; Son – Russell Pelton of Arundel, Maine; Grandchildren – Four, Christine Carbaugh and her husband Tony of Washington, Illinois; Jeff Pelton and his wife Julia of Washington, Illinois; Brandon Pelton and his wife Mandy of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Haley Johnson of North Fort Meyers, Florida; Great Grandchildren – Nine, Makkedah, Seth, Courtney, Emily, Caleb, Maggie, Noel Isaac, Ada and Ellis. She is preceded in death by her: Husband – Sherman L. Pelton; Great Grandchild – Jude Pelton; Parents – Harry & Inez Bowden and Nine brothers & sisters. SERVICES: Cremation is planned. Memorial Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 410 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012. CEMETERY: Graveside Inurnment will take place later at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.
