Mildred Mcqueeney

December 18, 1910 — December 27, 2007

Millie was born December 18, 1910 in Shirley, WV. The daughter of Edna Christmas Kemper Jones and Benjamin Harrison Jones, she had one brother, Robert Rockdale (Bob) Jones, who preceded her in death. As a young adult, she worked as a switchboard operator in WV and a clerk at J.C. Penney"s in Bradford, PA. In 1942 she married John Fullerton (Jack) McQueeney in Limestone, NY, and became a homemaker. In 1948, they moved to Kansas, living first in Garnett and later Paola. They had two children, Mary Patricia and John Joseph. Following the death of her husband, she and her daughter shared a home in Paola and, since 1988, in Lawrence. Following the loss of her husband in 1978, she re-discovered the satisfaction and community of quilting and volunteering. She was a member of St. Ann"s Circle Quilters at Holy Trinity in Paola and the Paola Senior Citizens quilting group. Her volunteer care giving to two elderly neighbors allowed them to remain in their homes for several years. In Lawrence, she attended St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center and enjoyed volunteering with the college students. Later, she attended St. John the Evangelist, Lawrence, and participated in the LINK ministry. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother. She leaves her children, Mary Pat, John and his wife, Ann, Lawrence; grandchildren, John William and Katie McQueeney, San Antonio; Michael McQueeney and Ryan Mustian, Fairway; and step-grandchildren, Katherine Wolcott, Dallas; and Sarah Wolcott, Lawrence.
