Mildred Lorraine Rechtfertig was born on Thursday, August 30, 1917, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edwin and Clara (Nemmers) Larson. Mildred lived sixty years in Waterloo, before moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 1978, where she made her home, until her death on Monday, January 30, 2006, at the age of eighty-eight years. Mildred graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waterloo, Iowa, with the class of 1934. She was a homemaker. Mildred was noted for her total dedication to raising her six children in a loving Christian home. She was deeply loved by her twenty-three grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She died peacefully enveloped in the love and devotion of her family. She enjoyed reading, knitting, ceramics, and Bible study. Mildred was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Ladies' Guild, Christian Women's Club, Oasis Club, and Peoria Plotter's Extension Homemaker Unit, all in Ottawa.
