Mildred Irene Hilding

August 14, 1911 — November 20, 2003

Mildred Irene Hilding was born August 14, 1911, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Fred N. and Grace M. (Scoville) Steele. From 1947 to 1963, Mildred lived in Paola, Kansas. In 1963, she moved to Emporia, Kansas. In 1990, she moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home, until her death Thursday, November 20, 2003, at the age of ninety-two years. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1931. Mildred has primarily been a homemaker. During the early 1950's, she worked as a seamstress at Smith Manufacturing in Paola, Kansas. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Emporia, Kansas, Daughters of the American Revolution and Bridge Club. Mrs. Hilding was a lovely lady who greatly loved and enjoyed her family. She was also very devoted to her many friends. For forty years, she enjoyed bowling and also liked to play Bridge. On March 17, 1932, Mildred was united in marriage with Arnold Waldo Hilding at Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death April 25, 1976. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Arthur Hilding; sister, Wilma Crews; and, two brothers, Lawrence Steele and Robert W. Steele. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Maurine Hilding of McKinney, Texas; two grandsons, Scot Anthony Hilding and Kent Ray Hilding, both of Dallas, Texas; and, several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2003. OFFICIANT: Pastor Scott Dickinson. IN STATE: Mrs. Hilding will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Saturday to the service hour, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends 4 to 5:00 Sunday afternoon. CEMETERY: Dean Cemetery in Franklin County, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa,Kansas.
