Micheal Dean Brown was born on Tuesday, June 23, 1987, in Emporia, Kansas, where he was raised. He was the son of William D. and Donna (Smith) Brown. He also lived in North Little Rock, Arkansas, moving to Williamsburg, Kansas, in 1997. He died Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at the age of twenty years, at Landhstul, Germany, while serving with the First Aviation Battalion of the First Aviation Brigade in Iraq. Micheal graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 2005. He was a member of Ottawa Community Church. Micheal enlisted in the United States Army in November of 2004 into the Delayed Entry Program. He then attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson in February of 2005 and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. SPC Brown is a graduate of the 15P course and Combat Lifesaver Course. He was a TOC NCOIC as a PFC while attached to the 82nd Medical Company who he deployed with for OIF III. He redeployed with the 82nd Med in November of 2006. Upon redeployment, he was reassigned to HHC, 1-1 ARB and was currently deployed with them in support of OIF 07-09. SPC Brown was currently attached to TF Odin, an unmanned aerial vehicle unit. He served with Operation Iraqi Freedom III from November of 2005 to November of 2006 and Operation Iraqi Freedom IX from September of 2007 to October 16, 2007. His awards and decorations include: Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Wheeled Vehicle Drivers Badge, Aviation Crewman Badge, and Rifle Sharpshooter Qualification Badge. Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal awarded posthumously. Micheal is survived by his mother, Donna Hollon and her husband, Steven, of Williamsburg; sister, Edna Brown and her fianc', Tim Hill, of Williamsburg; brother, Christopher Lynn Brown of Williamsburg; maternal grandmother, Beulah Smith of Williamsburg; paternal grandparents, Les and Edna Klieder of Cave City, AR; step paternal grandmother, Dorothy Hollon of Ottawa; nephew, Jaden Hill of Williamsburg; and girlfriend, Megan Branch of Bessemer City, NC. He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather, William G. Smith; two uncles, Roy Brown, Lonnie Smith; and great-grandmother Walker. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Ottawa University Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Micheal at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening.
