Michael S. Twedt, 79, of Ottawa, Kansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, January 30, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Community Revival Center Church, 2749 Montana Road, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends prior to the service at noon for a luncheon/visitation at the church. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Mike was born Monday, September 27, 1937, in Manly, Iowa, the son of H.S. “Doc” and Mildred (Kraus) Twedt. In 1961, Mike moved to Ottawa, where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1959 with a bachelor of science. Mike received a graduate teaching assistantship from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in order to pursue his master’s degree in communications and mass media, graduating in the fall of 1960. He continued his education at the University of Kansas graduating in 1969 with his Ph.D. Mike was united in marriage to Judy Larson January 28, 1961, in St. Edward, Nebraska. She survives of their home. Other survivors include his three children, Tammy Ellis of Ottawa, Cindy Twedt of Los Angeles, California, and Dan Twedt and wife Becky of West Des Moines, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Grant Ellis, Anna Twedt, and Owen Twedt. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.S. “Doc” and Mildred Twedt; brother, Patrick Twedt; and sister, Karen Olson. Mike began his teaching career in 1960 at Huron College in South Dakota. One year later, he moved to Ottawa to teach at Ottawa University, where he taught speech and drama, coached forensics and debate, and oversaw the college radio station. After 17 years of teaching, Mike changed his career and his last occupation was with Union Pacific Railroad in customer service for 22 years, retiring August 31, 2002. He was a member of the Community Revival Center Church for the past 43 years. Mike was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, neighbor and friend whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. Along with attending church and his deep love for the Lord, he also enjoyed reading, teaching at the Ottawa Christian Academy, watching sports, along with collecting antiques and history memorabilia.
