Michael Stuart 'Mike' Brady was born June 7, 1947, at Parsons, Kansas. He was the son of Lou H. and Ruth E. (Purkey) Brady. A lifelong resident, Mike made his home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Saturday, September 18, 2004, at the age of fifty-seven years. Mike graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1965. He attended Ft. Scott Junior College on a football scholarship. He also attended Ottawa University. He ran the first Pizza Hut in Ottawa. Later, he became one of the finest concrete flatwork men around. However, his first and foremost career was serving Franklin County, as a Deputy Sheriff, the past eight years. He was a member of Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Lawrence Eagles Men's Club; Ottawa Country Club Board; Hickory Hollow Golf Course; Lamont Golf Course; Kansas Sheriff's Association; and, Kansas Golf Association. He refereed high school football fifteen years, coached church league basketball, was an avid golfer, with two holes-in-one, and, qualified for the Kansas Amateur Golf Tournament. In 1965, Mike was united in marriage with Marsha Howell. They later divorced. On October 30, 1982, Mike was united in marriage with Sharon Russell at Ottawa. She survives of their home. Mike is also survived by five children, Sandra Zook, and her husband, Terry, of Garnett, Todd Brady, and his companion, Lee Ann Criqui, of Ottawa, Stacy Sykes, and her husband, Marvin, of Hominy, Oklahoma, Brett Brady, and his companion, Antoinette Lana, of Ottawa, Scott Brady of Lawrence; two brothers, Ron Brady, and his wife, Ethel, of Ottawa, Tim Brady of Wichita; five sisters, Pat Haworth of Ottawa, Sharon Thompson, and her husband, Jack, of Ottawa, Mary Brady of Ottawa, Peg McFadden, and her husband, Joe, of Ottawa, Kathleen Brady of Lawrence; eight grandchildren, Justin Zook, and his wife, Erin, Dallas Zook, B. J. Cotton, Fonda Cotton, Shawn Sykes, Shara Sykes, Robert L. Brady, and, Derek Lana. Mr. Brady was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Brady, and, daughter, Debra Russell. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Ottawa, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2004. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Brady after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
