Merle L. Young, Jr., age 68, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS. He was born on Sunday, February 27, 1944, in Harveyville, Kansas, the son of Myrle L., Sr. and Dorothy (King) Young. Merle was a resident of the Ottawa area since 1962, moving here from Harveyville, Kansas. He attended Harveyville Grade School and High School. Merle worked with Commodore Homes of Ottawa for 22 years. He then worked as a mechanic for the City of Ottawa for 21 years, retiring in June 2009, On September 11, 1961 Merle was united in marriage with Alice F. DeLong at Alma, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife – Alice F. Young of Ottawa, Kansas Daughter – Tammy Heimsness and her husband Bret of Waynesville, Missouri Daughter – Teresa Oshman and her husband Rick of Michigan Valley, Kansas Sister – Neola Erickson of Topeka, Kansas Sister – Merlene Simmons of Topeka, Kansas Sister – Karen Benteman of Auburn, Kansas Grandchildren – (8) Kristina Allis, Megan Pettinger, Nathan Whitehead, Bryant Whitehead, Cecelia Heimsness, Bret Heimsness, Matthew Oshman and Steven Oshman Great-grandchildren – (6) He is preceded in death by his: Parents – Myrle L., Sr. and Dorothy Young Son – Troy Young SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012. IN STATE: Mr. Young will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
