Melvin Luther Johnson, age 55, of Emporia formerly of Paola, passed away November 15, 2011 at Olathe Medical Center. (cremation) Melvin was born on March 9, 1956 in Paola, Kansas to Claude and Alice Harper Johnson. He lived in the Paola area until he was in his 20"s and then moved to Ottawa and lived there until moving to Emporia in 2004. He worked as a Nurse"s Aid for over 20 years at area nursing homes. He also worked construction as a sheet rocker and painter for 5 years. He volunteered at the local halfway house helping others with their transition back to society. Melvin enjoyed playing pool, cards, chess, collecting ball caps, socializing with family and friends, and he loved telling jokes. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Claude, and one sister Karen Sue Johnson. Surviving are his two sisters Wanda Wilson of Olathe, Kansas and Sharon Woody of Linwood, Kansas; two brothers Gene Harper of Wichita, Kansas and Edwin Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
