Melva Joan McConnell, 85, passed away at her daughter’s home in Louisburg, KS on November 20, 2017 after a long illness. She was born to Melvin and Mildred (Miller) Hogg on September 13, 1932 in the back of a diner owned by her parents in Preston, KS during the lunch rush hour. The family later moved to Kingman, KS.
Her joys in life were her children, but especially her grandchildren. She was a Girl Scout leader for nine years, Sunday School teacher and a professional actor. She had many roles in community theaters in Kingman and Wichita. Later, she read at nursing homes, children’s story hours and organized acting classes at senior centers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard; one son, Jim;. one sister and one great grandchild.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna (Bill) Hipp, Louisburg, KS, formerly of Garden City; one son, Toby (Jane), Oklahoma city, OK; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman, Kansas at a later date.
