Melissa Kay (McClendon) Mallory, age 25, of Carbondale, Kansas, died Friday, January 7, 2011. She was born on Thursday, December 12, 1985, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Tony Ray McClendon and Roxanne Kay (Smith) McClendon-DeJarnette. She was a near lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, living in Iola, Holton and Carbondale. Melissa was an honor student and 2004 graduate of Pomona High School, where she excelled in playing the trumpet and was a member of the concert, jazz and pep bands. She received a band scholarship and graduated with her Associate of Arts Degree from Allen County Community College of Iola in 2006. She was employed as a Teller for U.S. Bank in Topeka, Kansas. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society of Allen County Community College. She played first base on a fast pitch softball travel team and participated in volleyball, basketball and track, while in high school. On Saturday, June 28, 2008, Melissa was united in marriage with Paul “P.J.” Mallory in Pomona, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her father, Tony Ray McClendon of Holton, Kansas; mother, Roxanne Kay (Smith) DeJarnette and her husband, Dale, of Pomona, Kansas; brother, Michael McClendon and his girlfriend, Whitney Sperry, of Waverly, Missouri; sister, Angie McCune and her husband, Josh, of Manhattan, Kansas; maternal grandparents, Jack and JoAnn Smith of Pomona, Kansas; paternal grandparents, Don and Treva Gregg of Topeka, Kansas; grandfather, Bryce DeJarnette of Waverly, Kansas; grandmother, Violet Davin of Garnett, Kansas; and nephew, Carter McCune of Manhattan, Kansas. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011. IN STATE: Melissa will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin County, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to West Franklin Girls Athletics, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
