Maxine Wollen, age 94 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Sunday, April 14, 2013. She was born on Friday, April 11, 1919, in Lone Elm, Kansas, the daughter of Glenn and Grace (DePoe) Sarver. Maxine has lived in Ottawa since 1943 moving from Lone Elm, Kansas. She graduated from Lone Elm High School with the class of 1937. She attended Pittsburg State University in 1939-1940 receiving a Teaching Certificate. On June 23, 1943 Maxine was united in marriage with Olin Wollen in Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death May 29, 2003. Maxine was a homemaker most of her life. She taught school three years in rural Anderson County in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa and United Methodist Women where she served in many leadership roles, a member of the Sunshine Class which was later combined with the Oxford Service Forum Class and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Extension Homemakers Unit and Child Study Club both of Ottawa. Maxine spent many hours volunteering her time serving as a Grey Lady with Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her: Son – Terry Wollen and his wife Judy of Falls Church, Virginia Daughter – Jane Works and her husband Joe of Humboldt, Kansas Daughter – Sara Mitchell and her husband Victor of Ottawa, Kansas Daughter – Becky White and her husband Gene of Baldwin City, Kansas Daughter-in-law – Lori Wollen of Lakewood, Washington Sister - Naomi McAfee of Garnett, Kansas Grandchildren – Eleven Great Grandchildren – Twenty-One She is preceded in death by her: Husband – Dr. Olin Wollen Son – Jim Wollen Parents – Glenn & Grace Sarver SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 20, 2013. IN STATE: Family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 6:30 to 7:30 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Mid-America Nutrition Program or First United Methodist Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
