Maxine Smith

February 18, 1916 — July 26, 2006

Mrs. Smith was a lifelong Ottawa resident until 2001, when she moved to the Osage City area to live with family. After attending Ottawa High School, she was employed by the Robe Hardware and Auto and, later, by Goss and Gentner Hardware. From 1950 - 1968, she and her husband owned and operated the Harry Smith Auto Supply. Following their retirement, they spent the winter months in Texas, where they did volunteer work for the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg. Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace Community Church in Pharr, Texas, and, when in Ottawa, attended Ottawa Bible Church. On February 23, 1935, Peg was united in marriage with Harry E. Smith at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1989. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2006. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Smith at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa after 1:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer`s Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
