Maxine R. Jones

Maxine R. Jones, 79, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 9, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, August 8, 2019, at the mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas at 3:00 P.M., Friday, August 9th. Maxine was born November 30, 1939, in Iola, Kansas, the last surviving sibling of 9 children born to William N. and Lena Ellen (Madison) Uitts. In the early 1960s Maxine made her home in Ottawa. Maxine was united in marriage to Jesse L. Jones December 22, 1956 in Rushville, Illinois. They later divorced. Survivors include three children, Timothy Jones of Bonner Springs, Terry Jones and wife Heather of Moline, Illinois, and Cynthia Jones of Ottawa; four granddaughters, Ashley Stafford and husband Daniel of Ottawa, Courtney Crawley also of Ottawa, Amanda Jones of Thornton, Colorado, and Nicole Jones of Kansas City, Missouri; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Minnie Uitts, Pauline Cole, Joella “Dodi” Dowell, Patricia Longfellow, Lucille Herman, Lela Coplan, Charles Uitts and Orville Leon Uitts. Maxine was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. Maxine enjoyed singing, crafts, Skip-Bo, and watching Chicago Cubs baseball.
