Maxine L. Wood

Maxine L. Wood, age 84, of Louisburg, KS passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Louisburg Care Center after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer"s. She was born April 9, 1926 at Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Pierce Roy and Hattie M. Bryan Roy. She was united in marriage to Earl Wood on June 6, 1945 in Kansas City, KS. She worked at Louisburg High School as head cook before retiring. Maxine was best known for sharing her many great home cooked meals. She enjoyed making candles, stained glass and playing bridge with her family and friends. She got great pleasure out of spending time with her grandchildren. Maxine and Earl loved traveling to Texas in the winters, making many new friends and joining old friends there. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 infant brother. Survivors include her husband of 65 years Earl Wood, Louisburg KS; 2 sons, David Wood, Louisburg, KS; and Greg Wood and wife Mara Dona , Louisburg, KS; 1 sister, Shirley McKain, Overland Park, KS; 1 brother, Don Leakey, Berryton, KS; 4 grandchildren, Matt Wood, Sarah Karpinski, Amy Dowell and Danelle Wisdom; 8 great grandchildren , Shylah Dowell, Brady Dowell, Bryson Dowell, Simon Karpinski, Griffin Karpinski, Luke Wood, Lexi Riddle and Lily Riddle. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Louisburg United Methodist Church, Louisburg, KS. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. " 11:00 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Burial will be in the Louisburg Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Alzheimer"s Association.
