Maxine L. Holden, 86, Ottawa, Kan., passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Dengel Son Mortuary. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Holden after 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel Son Mortuary, where family members plan to meet with friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment is set for Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Maxine was born Sunday, Sept. 25, 1927, in Centropolis, Kan., the daughter of Clarence C. and Ida Mae (Atherton) Barnhart. She attended first grade at Centropolis Grade School, and second through eighth grades at Kaub School and graduated from Appanoose High School. Maxine was united in marriage with Donald L. McAuley in May 1947. They were later divorced. She married William Clester Holden Dec. 3, 1955. He preceded her in death March 30, 2008. She and her husband lived in Ottawa, until January 1975, when they moved to Topeka. They later lived in Ripon, Calif.; Maple Hill, Kan.; and Lake Mills, Wis.; before returning to Ottawa in April 1991.Maxine worked at Ricks Store in Ottawa in 1945 and then at Bruce Manufacturing, Mode ODay Clothing Factory, Cedar House Nursing Home, Bennett Creamery, Platner Products, Parmalee Products, and Bennett Retail.She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Ottawa.Survivors include her four daughters, Gloria Stitt and husband, Danny, Ottawa, Connie Lee McAuley, Ottawa, Mary Catherine Cathi Shinkle Page and husband Benny, Ottawa, and Cynthia Ann McCall and husband, Marc, Ottawa; step-daughter, Vicki Sue Dowdy and husband David of Ottawa; step-son, Roger William Holden, Lawrence; half-sister, Sharon Liar, Kansas City, Mo.; half-brother, Lavern Barnhart, Overbrook; half-brother, Clifford Barnhart, Delia, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Chris Stitt and wife, Brande, Ottawa, Shonda Stitt, Ottawa, Travis Shinkle and wife Kasey, Fairfield, Calif., Jared Shinkle and wife, Deanna, Ottawa, Robby Burns and wife, Katharina, Germany, Scott Burns and wife Shelby, Fort Riley, Kan., Ashley Uht and husband, Brad, Minot, N.D., and Ryan McCall, Ottawa; and seven great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Pearl Barnhart; and half-brother, Melvin Barnhart.The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kingdom Hall Fund through Dengel Son Mortuary, 235 S.
