Maxine Eileen Chapman

Maxine Eileen Chapman was born July 22, 1922, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Lawrence Howard and Sarah Berneice (Graves) Day. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident, until moving to Lawrence, Kansas, in November, 1992, where she made her home, until her death Friday, December 12, 2003, at the age of eighty-one years. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1940. She was a homemaker and also worked thirty-seven years as bookkeeper and treasurer for the family business, Chapman Pest Control. In the early 1940's, she was a sales clerk at Montgomery Ward in Ottawa. Mrs. Chapman was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, former member of North Baptist Church and attended the Cherry Street Wesleyan Church, all of Ottawa. She was a member of His Pasture Home Church Group, 700 Club and telephone counselor for them. She was a past member of an Extension Homemaker Unit, PTA, Women's Aglow and the Christian Women's Club. Mrs. Chapman was a devout Christian. Through her faith, she ministered to many throughout her life. She enjoyed Bible study groups and served as a guide for Christian Women's Stonecroft Bible Studies. She was also prayer captain for a national prayer chain. She was also devoted to her family and grandchildren, each of whom brought her so much joy. In her leisure time, she liked to watch T.V. A few of the shows she enjoyed most were 'Clifford the Big Red Dog', 'Frances the Talking Mule', and 'Leave It To Beaver'. The Disney, History, and Discovery channels were her favorites. On June 3, 1944, Maxine was united in marriage with Everett L. Chapman at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three sons, Lawrence Chapman and his wife, Beverley, of Lawrence, Wayne Chapman and his wife, Janice, of Bedford, Texas, Leslie Dean Chapman and his wife, Becky, of Lawrence; sister, Beverly Priest and her husband, Wayne, of Kansas City, Kansas; brother, Larry M. Day and his wife, Shirley, of Salina, Kansas; four grandsons, William L. Chapman, Alexander Chapman, Jonathan Chapman, Ryan A. Chapman; granddaughter, Kellee L. Chapman; and great-granddaughter, Cassandra Chapman. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 16, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Don Ogden and Rev. Harriett Bechtle IN STATE: Mrs. Chapman will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 AM Monday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Hospice or Trinity United Methodist Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
