Max L. Green, 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kansas.
Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00am., Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Hope Cemetery in Ottawa.
Family will greet friends from 5:30-7:30pm, Monday, July 15, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Max was born Thursday, January 31, 1935, in Bethlehem, Iowa, the son of Ralph F. and Nelma I. (Hellyer) Green.
He lived in Des Moines, Iowa and Denver, Colorado and Princeton, Kansas before moving to Ottawa, Kansas where he resided for the last five years.
Max graduated from Mercer High School in, Mercer Missouri, with the class of 1954 in a graduating class of 9.
He was united in marriage on June 28, 1993, in Papillion, Nebraska, to Pamela R. “Pam” Ward. She survives at their home in Ottawa.
Max worked at OTRX as an over the road truck driver for twenty-five years hauling general freight out of Olathe, Kansas before retiring in 2010.
He was a farmer at heart and enjoyed singing and playing country music and old country music history. Max liked gardening, bowling, and building things with his hands, but he especially loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Nelma Green; stepson Shawn McCannon; brothers Melvin Green and Floyd Green; and sister Leta Beavers.
Survivors include his children Debbie Wiley of Orland, California, Leta Atlas (Ted) of San Jose, California, and Beth Stephens (Kyle) of Roseville, California, John Green of Marquette, Kansas, Mark Green (Eric) of Phoenix, Arizona and Bonnie Turner of Marquette, Kansas; siblings, Jim Green of Tempe, Arizona and Philip Green of Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
Contributions for funeral expenses would be appreciated by the family. Checks should be made payable to Pam Green c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 South Hickory Street, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. The family has chosen Turner Flowers of Ottawa, KS (785) 242-6120 to provide flowers.
