Max E. “Pappy” Foushee, age 82, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa. He was born on Saturday, October 6, 1928, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Clarence A. and Cornelia Rebecca (Wright) Foushee. Max is the last of his family. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. Max attended Ottawa schools. He worked as a shop foreman for Fogle Quarry twenty-two years, until semi-retiring in 1991. In 1998, he began working at the nutrition site kitchen delivering meals to Wellsville and rural areas, retiring in October of 2005. On Monday, June 28, 1955, Max was united in marriage with Helen Marie (Bauer) Gosney in Mankato, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2005. Even though he was not a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, he volunteered for many years at Leavenworth Veterans Hospital for the ladies of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary of Ottawa. He enjoyed camping and hunting. In his younger days, he flew his own plane for enjoyment and, in the 1940’s and 1950’s, co-owned a plane with his sister, Lela. He is survived by his: Daughter-Sharon Jones and her husband, Richard, of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter-Peggy Caylor and her husband, Sam, of Rantoul, Kansas; Son-Gerald R. Gosney of Wellsville, Kansas; Son-Earl E. “Ed” Foushee and his wife, Joy, of Ottawa, Kansas; Grandchildren-Fifteen and Gt. Grandchildren-Twelve. He is preceded in death by his: Parents-Clarence A. and Cornelia Rebecca Foushee; Sister-Lela Webster; Sister-Zola Sand; Brother-Neal Foushee; Brother-Rex Foushee and Brother-Bobby “Dale” Foushee. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011. IN STATE: Mr. Foushee will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to services. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to V.F.W. Post #5901 Auxiliary, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
