Max D. Hunter, 88, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 12, 2013. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Hunter at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, August 11, 2013. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. Max was born on Sunday, December 21, 1924 in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of John Clifford and Minnie Inez (Oakman) Hunter. He was a lifelong Ottawa, Franklin County Kansas resident. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1942. On April 13, 1947 Max was united in marriage with Doris Kimball in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. Other survivors include his two daughters, Kay Hunter of Leavenworth, Kansas and Jan St. Pierre of Ottawa; grandson, Brett Burgoon; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his parents, J. Clifford and Minnie Hunter; and sister, Roberta Bechtle. Max was a lifelong farmer in crops and livestock. He also worked for the Post Office as a rural mail carrier from the mid 1960’s to late 1980’s. He was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church. Max was a loving husband, father and grandfather who supported and cared for his family throughout his life. He enjoyed his pet dogs and cats, mowing, watching the news and weather programs, looking at maps and planning his travels, and taking drives to look at crops.
