Maurice Michael "Mike" Whalen, 83, of Cleveland, MO died Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Mike was born on March 29, 1932 at the family farm near Ivesdale, IL; a son of Arthur Sr. and Estella (Boyle) Whalen. He attended the one room Boyle School through 8th grade and graduated from Unity High School, Tolono, IL, class of 1950. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and trained as an aircraft mechanic. He met the love of his life, Sandra McCartney, while he was in the Air Force. They married at Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Wichita, KS in 1962. They had four children. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; grand-daughter Gracie Downs; and two brothers, Arthur, Jr. and Howard. Survivors include his children, Michelle (Michael) Agriesti of Rockwall, TX, Tony (Debbie) Whalen of Liberty, MO, Jerry (Andrea) Whalen of Nevada, MO, and Molly (Eric) Downs of Drexel, MO; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Gertrude Cannon of CA and Lucille Armstrong of IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He retired from Richards-Gebaur in 1987. He cherished his Cleveland neighborhood where he lived for 41 years, and felt blessed to have many wonderful friends and neighbors.
