Mary Margaret Whitaker, 98, of Clay Center, Kansas, formerly of Louisburg, died May 24, 2012 at the Clay Center Medical Center. Mary was born May 8, 1914 at Louisburg, Kansas. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Ann (Esterman) Groh. Mary grew up in Louisburg and where she attended country school. She was united in marriage to Walter B. Whitaker on September 14, 1936 at Louisburg. They made their home in Louisburg and Paola and became the parents of seven children. Mary had worked on the family farm and also at Pinecrest Nursing Home as a certified medical aide. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter who died in 1986, her son Walter Vincent Whitaker, two brothers Albert and Ed Groh, one sister Dorothy Quinn, and two grandchildren Jeffrey Willis and James Whitaker. She is survived by three daughters Mary Esther Willis of Paola, Betty Robinson of Clay Center, and Rosie Cassida of Osawatomie; three sons Edwin of Carencro, Louisiana, Bill of Branson, Missouri, and Jerry of Osawatomie; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
