Mary Margaret Beets

Mary Margaret Beets, age 93, of Paola passed away February 28, 2016 at the North Point Skilled Nursing Facility. Mary was born in Spring Hill on September 7, 1922, the daughter of Bushrod and Gladys Young Newton. She was one of eleven children. She married Kenneth Beets May 12, 1943. Mary lived in the Hillsdale area most of her life. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was an avid collector of recipes. She spent summers canning and freezing from her bountiful garden. She would always say "this will taste good when the snow is flying". She was well known for her delicious food, her specialty being made from scratch rolls which, try as they might, no one can replicate. But, it is her smile that will be missed the most. She was a member of the Spring Hill American Legion Auxiliary. Mary is survived by her children Richard Beets (Carol) of Ladera Ranch, CA, Mary Anne Myers of Kingman, AZ, Donald Beets (Jeannie) of Blue Springs, MO, Donna Wimbush of Paola, KS, and Linda Borst (Rob) of Emporia, KS and also daughter-in-law Bonnie Beets of Olathe, KS; brothers, Dick Newton of Spring Hill, KS and Jim Newton of Hillsdale, KS and sister, Dorothy O"Brien of Georgia; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded by her parents; husband Kenneth in 1990; son Kenneth Beets; grandsons infant Michael Beets and Shane Hannah; great-granddaughter infant Angel Wimbush; brothers infant Karl Newton, Tom Newton, Bill Newton, Joe Newton, and Bob Newton; sisters, Betty Newton and Martha Crawford.
