Mary Madeline Vega

Mary Madeline Vega was born on Thursday, July 29, 1926, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Cecelio and Refugio (Alonzo) Cruces. A lifelong resident, Mary made her home in Ottawa until her death on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the age of eighty-one years. Mary attended Ottawa schools. She was a homemaker and seamstress her entire adult life. She was employed by H.D. Lee of Ottawa, retiring in the late 1980's. She was a member of Community Foursquare Church in Ottawa. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, crocheting, and cross-stitching. She created many lovely items for her family and friends to cherish through the years. On September 28, 1947, Mary was united in marriage with Luis M. Vega in Olathe, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by four daughters, Rosalind Flores of ElCentro, California, Stella Jackson and her husband, Kevin, of Ottawa, Kansas, Patricia Shenk of Wichita, Kansas, Sara Vega of Ottawa, Kansas; son, Richard Vega and his wife, Diane, of Lawrence, Kansas; sister, Mildred Minden of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, Richard Cruces and his wife, Alta, of Ottawa, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Salvador Vega; two brothers, Abelino Cruces, John Cruces; two grandsons, Kevin Jackson, Jr., Salvador Vega, II; and great-granddaughter, Kristina Vega. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Vega at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and after 1:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 3:00 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Community Foursquare Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
