Mary Louise Colwell, 83, of Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas passed away peacefully Sunday October 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Graveside services will be held 10:00am, Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Washington Creek Cemetery, Overbrook, Kansas.

Family will greet friends from 4-6:00pm, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Mary was born January 14, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Earl and Vivian (Wheeler) Hackethorn.

She attended Grandview High School in Grandview, Missouri, graduating with the class of 1959.

Mary was united in marriage on September 2, 1960, in Lee Summit, Missouri, to Dennis Longfellow. They divorced in November 1970.

She was then united in marriage on June 22, 1974, in Tucson, Arizona, to Norman Colwell. He survives of the home.

Mary enjoyed gardening, abstract painting, genealogy, history, feeding birds, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, and wandering skunks. She lovingly referred to them as “her critters.”

She never knew a stranger and was always willing to give a hug to whoever she met.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Vivian; son Philip Longfellow; and sister Jean Hackethorn.

Along with her husband Norman, survivors include son William “Bill” Longfellow (Kimiki) of Ottawa, Kansas; sisters Helen Hagen (Steve) of Flagstaff, Arizona and Ann Fasanella of Las Vegas, Nevada; ten grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
