Mary Lee Ball

Mary Lee Ball, 85, of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, at Wellsville Health & Rehabilitation, Wellsville, Kansas.

Celebration of life will be held 1:00-3:00 pm, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Wellsville United Methodist Church.

Inurnment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas.

Mary was born Friday, May 6, 1938, in Gardner, Kansas, the daughter of William and Mary (Fairchild) Murphy.

She lived in Coffeyville, Kansas, Cherokee, Oklahoma, St. Petersburg, Florida, Largo, Florida, and Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Wellsville, Kansas in 1971.

Mary graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1956 and attended Baker University for two years.

She was united in marriage on August 31, 1958, in Wellsville to Jimmie Jones. He preceded her in death on February 29, 1976. She was married on August 2, 1997, in Wellsville to Donald Ball. He also preceded her in death in 2013.

May was employed with King Radio from the early 1970s to the late 1990s in the testing department.

She was the keyboardist at Wellsville United Methodist Church, an active member of the United Methodist Women, and was the Alumni Lady for the Wellsville Alumni Association for forty years.

Music was very important to Mary. She was either playing the organ and/or piano or signing in the choir at every church she attended.

Along with her husbands, Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include daughter Janet Goodenow (Mark) of Westmoreland, Kansas; brother John O’Neil of Overland Park, Kansas; sister Peggy Hillyer of Hiawatha, Kansas; and two grandchildren Luke Goodenow (Nicole) of Westmoreland, Kansas and Heather Weatherford (James) of Lawrence, Kansas.
