Mary Jane Frances Lickteig, 85, of Richmond, Kansas died on Friday, January 16, 2009, at Overland Park Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born on Tuesday, June 19, 1923, in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of Herbert Earl and Mary Edith Lanham, (nee French). Mary Jane lived in Washington, D.C. twenty-seven years, four years in Garnett, Kansas, and on a farm near Richmond, Kansas since 1950. Mary Jane graduated from Holy Name School in Washington, D.C and St. Patrick's Academy. She worked two and a half years as a secretary for the Central Intelligence Agency; two and a half years working for General Omar Bradley at the Veterans Administration; and later, two and a half years as desk clerk at the EconoLodge in Ottawa, retiring in October of 1996. She also worked part time as a para-professional in Special Education at Central Heights School. Mary Jane was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa; St. Patrick’s Academy Alumna; past president and treasurer of Central Heights PTA; past Secretary of Franklin County American Cancer Society; Reach to Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society; member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary; Cub Master for the Cub Scouts, and an Assistant Leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts. On June 13, 1946, Mary Jane was united in marriage with Donald John Lickteig, Sr. in Washington, D.C. He survives at their home. Survivors include: Husband-Donald John Lickteig, Sr. of Richmond, Kan. Daughter-Joan Meinhardt & her husband, Troy, of Springfield, Mo. Daughter-Janet Evans of Lawton, Okla. Daughter-Kathleen White & her husband, Paul, of Lakewood, Colo. Son-Dennis M. Lickteig & his partner, Will Giammona, of Oakland, Calif. Daughter-Patricia Hettler & her husband, Ed, of Monument, Colo. Son-John Lickteig, Jr. & his wife, Ronda, of Trenton, Mo. Daughter-Elizabeth Bailey & her husband, Lloyd, of Littleton, Colo. Son-Steven Lickteig and his fiancé, Barrie Hardymon, of Washington, D.C. Son-in-law-Bob Hirschfeld of Augusta, Kan. Grandchildren-Twenty-two Gt.-Grandchildren-Sixteen and Several -Cousins, nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by: Mother-Mary Edith Lanham Father-Herbert Earl Lanham Daughter-Mary Diane Hirschfeld Brother-Norman Leo Lanham Brother-Joseph Lanham Brother-Herbert French Lanham. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Lickteig at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where a Rosary will be said at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, followed by family visitation from 3:30 to 4:30. CEMETERY: Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a later date.
