Mary J. Scott

Mary Jo Scott, 87, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Olathe, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2:45 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Paola Cemetery, Paola, Paola, Kansas. A visitation will be held prior to the graveside service from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary-Crematory, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071. Mary was born Tuesday, September 18, 1934, in Fort Scott, KS, the daughter of Thomas G. and Nola (Smith) McClanahan. Mary was united in marriage to Roscoe "Scotty" Scott October 16, 1955, in Louisburg, KS. They made their home in Paola and became the parents of two children Sherry and Philip. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed watching the Royals. She was a fan of Elvis Presley. Mary made her grandchildren's, nieces' and nephews' activities a big part of her life. Survivors include her daughter Sherry Lynn (Danny) Hoover of Bella Vista, AR; son Philip D. (Rita) Scott of Peekskill, NY; her sister Kathryn (John) Gerken of rural Paola; her brother Bill McClanahan of Tonganoxie; two grandchildren Tara Hoover and her fiance Derik Perez and Amy (Jeff) Payne; two great grandchildren Addyson and Grayson Payne; her companion Jerry Benbrook of Blue Mound; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 10 siblings Cecil McClanahan, Vernon McClanahan, Jack Carter, Margaret Chaboya, Gerald McClanahan, Don McClanahan, Pat Watkins, Alvin McClanahan, Bob McClanahan, and Tom McClanahan.
