Mary J. Crook

Mary J. Crook age 93, of Leawood, KS, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at St. Luke’s South Hospital, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Dengel & Son Funeral Home, Louisburg, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Louisburg High School Music Department. Mary was born December 21, 1923, in Curtis, Nebraska, daughter of Harlan Reece and Jessie (Weddle) Reece. Mary grew up in Wellfleet, Nebraska. On April 7, 1945, Mary united in marriage to Russell Crook which later ended in divorce. Mary taught private accordion lessons, in Denver, Colorado for several years. She worked as a bank clerk, department store clerk for Wards and Sears, retiring from Sears at the age of 82. She enjoyed sewing, crewing on a hot air balloon, shopping, and driving across country in her prized conversion van. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Marc Crook, brothers Champ Reece, Chauncey Reece, Hal Reece, Tim Reece, and Don Reece, and sister Nedra Reece. She is survived by son Michael (Margo) Crook, Green Bay, Wisconsin; daughter, Nedra (Art) Miller of Bucyrus, Kansas. Grandchildren, Steve and Dana of Darnestown, Maryland and several great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Evelyn Reece.
