Mary Frances Elizabeth Gilmore was called to Heaven on Saturday, April 6, 2013. She was born February 27, 1932 in Michigan Valley, Kansas, the daughter of Albert Earl and Helen Hannah (Hamilton) McCain. She graduated from Appanoose High School in 1949. She was married to Abram Wallace McNees in 1953. He preceded her in death in 1962. She later married Max Richard Gilmore. He preceded her in death in 1996. Mary worked most of her life, but will be most remembered for her years with the City of Ottawa at City Hall and Utilities Warehouse where she assisted customers and businesses. She retired in 1994. She loved nature and believed that God’s hand was present in everything and everyone around us. She never hesitated to stop and smell the roses – literally. She loved animals and many times was required to nurse and nurture baby animals that her children found and brought home. She loved exploring nature and would gather plants, insects, and rocks for later identification. Her bookshelves were filled with books on those subjects. She loved to travel because that gave her new places to explore. She will be remembered for her love of cooking, especially her fried chicken, noodles, cookies and candy. She will also be remembered for her quick wit and snappy comebacks. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and loved spending time with her family and watching her “little ones” grow up. She is survived by her son, Stanley Bryan McNees and Marci Hunter; daughter, Kathleen Helen (McNees) Graves and her husband Tim; grandson, Bryan James McNees; three granddaughters, Jessica Rae (Graves) Dunn, Rachael Leigh (Graves) McKnight, and Sarah Jean (Graves) Farnsworth; three great-granddaughters, Rayah, Lucy, and Molly; great-grandson, Jarod; three nephews, Mark, Todd, and Marty McCain and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Marshall and Marlin McCain. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 2:00 P.M.
