Mary Ann Roecker, 77, of Edgerton, Missouri formerly of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at St. Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. A private family graveside interment will be held at Hillsdale Cemetery in Hillsdale, Kansas. Mary was born February 22, 1943 in Ottawa, the daughter of Thomas and Cecil (Tabor) Poe. She lived in Edgerton, Missouri for 30 years, moving from Oregon, Missouri. She previously lived in Craig, Missouri and York, Nebraska and Ottawa, Kansas in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. On May 24, 1958 Mary was united in marriage to Doyle Roecker in Rantoul, Kansas. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Mary was employed as a telephone operator in Rantoul and Hillsdale, Kansas in the mid 1950’s; seamstress at Mode O Day in Ottawa in the early 1960’s; and was a bank teller many years in Craig and St. Joseph, Missouri in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s. Mary was a painter and traveled with the Silver Dollar City Craft Guild in the mid 1980’s and later opened Mary’s Crafts at Independence Center Mall in the early 1990’s and Plum Pudding at Antioch Mall until her retirement. Mary had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening with flowers and plants. She was very talented making flower arrangements, painting and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed traveling and wintered in Arizona. Above all, Mary loved her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Natalie Ann Roecker; son, Rick Lee Roecker; four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her husband Doyle of Edgerton; two children, Cheryl Petersen and husband Terry also of Edgerton, and Dwayne Roecker of St. Joseph, Missouri; two siblings, James Poe and wife Merita of Lane, Kansas and Olive Bickerstaff of Ottawa, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Jacob Petersen and wife Madison, Joshua Petersen and wife Abby, Theresa Petersen, Susan Roecker, Stephanie Roecker, Alyssa Duling and husband Bryce, Elizabeth Hackett and husband Jeremy, and Ryan Roecker; and ten great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
